Jennifer Wharton has been selected as Martin Township Clerk, to fill out the remainder of the term being vacated by Denise Dykstra.

The Martin Township Board had a special meeting Tuesday evening to conduct interviews for the position less than a week after Dykstra announced she had to step down because she no longer lives in the township. Dykstra’s last day is Friday, May 19.

Wharton is a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School and has worked most recently at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Plainwell and at Salvino’s Restaurant in Wayland.

She has had a couple of training sessions with Dykstra, who took over the job last January when former Clerk Rachelle Smit resigned to take a state representative post in Lansing for the 43rd District.
