Word has been received of the death Saturday night of Ken Bieber of Dorr.

Though a longtime resident of Dorr, he was a graduate of Wyoming Lee High School. He was a former journeyman millwright at Reynolds Aluminum Co. and attended Grand Rapids Community College.

His father, Owen Bieber, was president of the United Auto Workers union.

One of his daughters posted on Facebook, “I am sorry to say that my dad, Ken, passed away last night after a battle with cancer. He passed peacefully just before 11 p.m., surrounded by his three girls and his wife, Barb. It’s hard to believe that just a couple of weeks ago, he was still out on his tractor plowing snow.

“His health declined quickly in the past few weeks. If you know my dad, you know he was strong willed and liked things done a certain way. I think as soon as he could no longer be outside doing the things that he loved, he knew he was ready to go be with my mom, Judy.

“We greatly appreciate all of the support and prayers that were sent his way. I will post the obituary when we get the arrangements finalized.”
