
The Wayland girls’ basketball team had a bit of a letdown Wednesday night, only 24 hours away from its biggest victory of the season.
The Lady Wildcats came out on the short end of a 55-35 non-league verdict against Division 1 power Rockford. The defeat left Wayland with an overall season record of 11-6.
The Wildcats were missing two players, Rae Stallard and Laney Wolf, the latter who scored 14 big points in the overtime triumph over West Catholic.
Addie Sikorski tallied 11 points to lead the ‘Cats, freshman Jordan Grevenstuk added 10 and both Marissa Ainsworth and Charity Laker had five, including one three-pointer.
Ainsworth was coming off a huge night as well, scoring 30 points against West Catholic.
Rockford, one off the top-ranked teams in the state, finished the night with an overall record of 17-1.
