
The Martin girls’ softball team, got off to a terrific start Tuesday with a sweep of Battle Creek Central.
The Lady Clippers scored nine runs in the first inning. starting strong when Jadelynn Hooper singled, scoring two runs, Alley Bacon homered to center field, scoring two runs, Maggie Sego drew a walk, scoring one run, a steal of home scored one run, Eden Suk doubled, scoring one run, Anna Jager tripled, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored one other run.
They scored eight runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning. Sego was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Jager drew a walk, scoring one run, a passed ball scored one run, Bacon singled, scoring one run, and Milee Schwartz singled, scoring three runs.
Allison Rodgers earned the win on. The mound for the Clippers. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out six and walking two.
Schwartz and Bacon were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs. Malina Adams paced the team with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Jager led the team in base steals with three. The ladies stole on the mound eight bases in the game.
In the nightcap, Martin scored 21 runs in the first inning. Allison Rodgers singled, scoring one run, Jadelynn Hooper drew a walk, scoring one run, Milee Schwartz drew a walk, scoring one run, Maybelle Noble drew a walk, scoring one run, Eden Suk drew a walk, scoring one run, Anna Jager doubled, scoring two runs, Rodgers drew a walk, scoring one run, Hooper drew a walk, scoring one run, Alley Bacon tripled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Morgan Thomson drew a walk, scoring one run, a passed ball scored one run, Jager doubled, scoring one run, a dropped third strike scored one run, Hooper singled, scoring one run, Kylie Meyers doubled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.
A walk by Rodgers, a triple by Schwartz, and a walk by Malina Adams helped extend their early lead in the second.
Freshman Thomson led things off in the circle for the Clippers for her varsity debut. The starting pitcher surrendered zero hits and three runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out seven and walking eight.
Jager led the team with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Jager and Bacon each collected two hits.
The Lady Clippers had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 15 walks for the game. Rodgers led the team with 6 steals and Jager trailed right behind with 4. The Clippers stole 19 bases in the game and they were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
