It was perhaps the most important victory for the Hopkins girls’ basketball team in quite a spell.

The Lady Vikings took out Grandville Calvin Christian 51-35 to (1) earn revenge for a 64-57 loss earlier this season, (2) move into a tie with the Squires for first place in the O-K Silver Conference standings and (3) extend their winning streak to seven straight games.

Hopkins and Calvin Christian both now are 7-1 in league play. The Lady Vikings are 10-3 overall.

Hopkins is coached by former point guard Kennedy Helderop, who later moved on to play the same position for Cornerstone University.

The Lady Wildcats were dealt a devastating blow to their hopes of an O-K Gold Conference title Tuesday evening.

Wayland defeated Wyoming earlier this season, but it was a different story this time on the road.

Senior pivot Addie Sikorski drilled 23 points, including one three-point field goal, but no other Wildcat managed to score in double figures. Laney Wolf scored eight points with a couple of threes and Jordan Grevenstuk had seven with a three. Marissa Ainsworth also had seven points and Charity Laker swished a three.

Three Wildcat starters were confined to the bench for much of the game because of foul troublle.

The Cats now have a 9-2 overall record, 6-2 in league play. Both South Chruistian and West Catholic are ahead of them in the standings.
