Lady Wildcats score another impressive hoops victory

The Wayland girls’ basketball team registered its second impressive victory in as many outings this season Tuesday night with a 71-31 triumph over O-K Gold Conference rival Grand Rapids Northview.

The Lady Wildcats, fresh from a 58-31 verdict over Hamilton last week, had a one-two punch offensively that dropped in 50 points between the two of them.

Senior inside player Addie Sikorski had 11 baskets, one a three-pointer, and finished with 30 points.

Junior guard Marissa Ainsworth swished four-three-point field goals and 20 points. Senior Laney Wolf and freshman Jordan Grevenstuk each had a three.

Wayland now is 2-0 overall and will engage in two more games this week, Wednesday against Hopkins and Friday against Holland Christian, which was 2-0 until it lost 57-47 to South Christian Tuesday.

Martin 36 Allegan 17

Martin girls Tuesday night broke into the win column by defeating Allegan 36-17 on the road. The Clippers, now 1-2 overall, had led at the half, 24-12.

Hopkins 45 NorthPointe Christian 38

The Hopkins girls remained undefeated for the young season under new coach Kennedy Helderop. They rallied in the fourth quarter to get the best of O-K Silver Conference rival North Pointe Christian.

The Lady Vikes fought back from an eight-point deficit going into the fourth quarter.

Kelsey Burgess led the way with 13 points, hitting some big threes to keep Hopkins in the game. Reegan Helderop chipped in 10 points.

The Lady Vikings are now 1-0 in conference play and 3-0 overall.

They will put their unbeaten record on the line against Wayland, which is 2-0 for the campaign.
