Lady Wildcats, Vikings both seeded 2nd in tourney

Both the Wayland and Hopkins high school girls basketball teams will face daunting tasks in their respective district tournaments in the first week of March.

One of Wayland’s foes in its district at South Christian is the undefeated and No. 1 ranked host. The second-seeded Wildcats now are 12-6 for the season overall and they drew a bye. So they’ll open tournament play against either Holland Christian or Grand River Prep at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 at the South Christian athletic complex.

Hudsonville Unity Christian and Wyoming Godwin Heights will open the tourney at 5:30 p.m. Monday evening, followed by the Holland Christian-Grand River Prep contest. Neither top-seeded South Christian nor Wayland will play until Wednesday.

The finals will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6.

Hopkins may have to face No. 1 seed Otsego

One of Hopkins’ opponents at the districts at Allegan may be top-seeded Otsego, Wolverine Conference champions.

Host Allegan and Hamilton will get things under way at 7 p.m. Monday. Hopkins, the second seed, won’t play until 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, against South Haven. Otsego will play at 5:30 the winner of Hamilton-Allegan game.

The finals will be played at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6.

Martin does play until Wednesday in semifinbals

Martin will play Battle Creek St. Phillip at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at the Clippers’ court in the semifinals. Thge other semifinal, at 5:30 the same day, wil;l be between Bellevue and top-seeded Climax-Scotts.

The finals will at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6.
