Leighton Township Fire Chief Tony Banas told the Township Board Thursday evening that he is actively seeking a full-time job elsewhere.
Banas, who has been chief at Leighton for the past four years, said he really would like to be involved in firefighting full time. Though he is chief, it’s only a part-time position.
Banas said he has applied for the fire chief’s jobs in Brighton and Grand Ledge, but he believes his best shot is as a full-time firefighter for Cascade Township, which is close enough to where he and his family would not have to move.
