The Leighton Township Board wants to meet with Deputy Assessor Katie Roodvoets VanDuine soon to finally reach an employment agreement.
VanDuine has been selected to succeed longtime Assessor Laura Stob, who retired June 15, but the two sides are still apart in negotiations. Stumbling blocks include hours per week the assessor will be available in the office, and, of course, salary, which is said to be hovering around the $50,000 per year mark.
The board Thursday night tabled a proposed agreement in order for Van Duine to meet with all five board members .
In other business at the regular meeting Thursday evening, the board:
• Did some preliminary work on three proposed ordinances, one setting rules for food trucks, another regulations for short-term rental units or properties and yet another dealing with trailers. No decisions on any of them have been made yet.
• Approved a new contract with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services. Two deputies will cover Leighton and Dorr townships now for a monthly stipend of $8,384.20, up by about $400 per month from last year.
• Agreed to pay an extra $10,000 to $15,000 to include shoulder work on the paving on 144th Avenue from Ninth Street to Kalamazoo Avenue. A smaller than anticipated graveling bill will pay for the work.
• Received a letter of intent from Charter Communications to renew cable television service via a franchise under the name Spectrum.
• Agreed to have a digital speed limit sign placed on Warbler Drive near Green Lake.
