The Community Quilters (WCQ) meet every second Saturday at the United Church of Wayland to do what they do best — quilt.

There is no lack of enthusiasm for the art of quilting in this group of 20 or so ladies.  The fabric they use for their quilting is largely donated to them by surrounding communities. Their quilts are all donated to a variety of organizations, including Wings Home of Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan, MI and the Linus Project, a nationwide organization that provides blankets to children in need.

WCQ members recently donated 20 quilts to the Orphan Grain Train, a Christian volunteer organization that donates food, clothing, medical and other comfort needs to people in 69 organizations across the US and in different countries, including Ukrainian refugees.

“It means a great deal to me’, says Kathy Adkins, a member of WCQ. “It means giving my talents and spreading them around, helping other people. A quilt is like giving a hug, which you can wrap around you when you’re cold.

Anyone who loves quilting or would like to learn is welcome to join this group by contacting the United Church of Wayland at (269) 792-2155.
