Local educator teaches in ‘Golden Apple’ program

Kristiana Zondervan, a Dorr Elementary teacher, for the past two days, has been an instructor for the Golden Apple scholars program, a new-to-Michigan program for college students who are becoming future educators.

The scholars have to apply, go through an extensive interview process and then if chosen, they live on Michigan State University’s campus for three weeks. The scholars are from colleges all over Michigan.

During their time on campus, they are given field placements to work directly with students who are in summer school programs, zoo programs, etc. The scholars also take extra professional development seminars that cover a variety of topics that they may not otherwise learn in their normal college courses.

Zondervan was chosen to present on communication, building trust with families and conflict resolution.
