The Wayland Fire and Yankee Springs Fire departments Monday morning were dispatched to assist Leighton Fire on a dwelling fire on the west side of South Division in Leighton Township.

Upon arrival just after 4 a.m., crews found an attached garage fully involved. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire and there were no injuries. However, there was considerable damage to the garage and house because the fire reignited a day later. The extensive damage can be seen from Division Avenue.

The homeowner was Marilyn Lagendyk, who used to be known as “The Halloween Lady.” Years ago she used to have spectacular decorations at the end of October.

Wayland Fire and Yankee Springs Fire cleared the scene as of 7 a.m., but had to return to the scene 24 hours afterward.
