A Hot Air Balloon Festival is planned for Saturday, Sept. 11, at Calkins Field (Wayland Municipal Airport) just north of Wayland along 10th Street.

This one day event will consist of a five-kilometer (5K) race, kids’ carnival, car show, vendor event, and balloon flights and a balloon glow.

There will be food trucks and a meet and greet with the pilots as well.

The 5K run will get under way at 9 a.m. that Saturday, gates will open at 11 a.m. and balloon activities are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Anthony Winters, co-owner of the Four One Two distillery and restaurant in downtown Wayland and one of the principal organizers, said on Facebook, “We are looking for vendors for our Hot Air Balloonfest at the Calkins Airport this fall! If you would like more information please e-mail us at 4one2cares@gmail.com!

“There will also be a 5K and cornhole tournament!”

It was noted that proceeds from the event will go to suicide prevention.
