A Jenison man who worked as a tech employee for Wayland Union schools now faces federal as well as state charges of producing and sharing child pornography.

Michael John Batt, 35, now has been charged by federal and state authorities with two counts of producing child porn, four counts of aggravated distribution of child porn, one count of aggravated possession of child porn, and one count of using a computer to commit a crime.

Batt first was charged by the state in September.

The U.S. Attorney’s office alleges he committed the offenses with a cell phone and then shared four images of child pornography over a messaging platform on the internet.

An undercover investigation into his online activity indicated wrongdoing and Michigan State Police afterward then searched his home and found evidence, which was confiscated.

Wayland Union Schools Supt. Tim Reeves reported Batt no longer works for the district and the alleged offenses were not committed in Wayland and there is no evidence that any staff or students were connected in any way to the activity.
