It was widely reported last week that a bat in Allegan County tested positive for rabies, and Pickle Street Veterinary Service in Monterey Township recommends vaccinating pets for the disease.

“We were recently notified that there was a bat that tested positive for rabies in Allegan County last week,” a Facebook post said. “Also, in the past few months there were two cats that tested positive to rabies on the east side of the state.

“This is a good reminder to have all of your pets (including cats and horses) vaccinated for rabies to make sure that if they are exposed they do not get sick.

“If you think that you have been bitten, scratched or exposed by a bat please contact the Allegan County Health Department.

If your animals are not currently up to date with rabies and you would like to schedule an appointment you can do so at 269-793-3050.”
