June LaVerne Krug, 84 of Hopkins died Monday, Nov. 28, at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan.
Born Feb. 15, 1938. in Patoka, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Charles Davis and Minerva Elliott Wilson Davis. In 1946, June’s family moved her to Hopkins, where she graduated from Hopkins High School Class of 1956.
She met and married Walter Krug on Aug. 31, 1957, and they went on to have three children together. Walter passed in 2006, leaving June to learn to continue without him.
She spent 29 years as the food service supervisor for the Hopkins Public Schools. June was a member of the Hopkins Community Church, Hopkins Lions Club (where she was the first female president), president of the Hopkins Community Recreation Committee, 4th of July parade director for 32 years, president of the Hopkins Alumni Association for 38 years, charter member of Allegan Draft Horse Club 4-H leader for three years, cheerleading coach for 11 years, Booster Club and concession worker for 40 years, and was a substitute bus driver.
In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting mittens, sewing, playing golf and bowling. She was also an avid reader. June was known as a great cook, baker and cake decorator. Her favorite hobby, and one she took great pride in, was entering her canned and baked goods in the Allegan County Fair and collecting more than 1000 ribbons for her efforts.
As a mom, grandma and great-grandma brought her great joy and also gave her extra reasons to do all of her hobbies, providing food and mittens to her family.
June leaves behind her three daughters, Beverly Areaux, Carrie Krug, and Amy (Steve) Pattillo; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Deel) Davis, Jr.; and three sisters, Joyce Jones, Carrie (John) Mulder, and Judy Kennedy.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Omer Wilson, Lester Wilson, Bill Wilson, Bob Wilson and Russell Davis.
Friends may meet with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the Hopkins Community Church, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec 3. June will be buried next to her husband, Walter, in Maplewood Cemetery,
