Jacob “Jake” VandenBerg, age 82, of Martin Township, died, Friday, Aug. 12, at Laurels of Sandy Creek in Wayland.
Mr. VandenBerg was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Decatur, the son of John and Jennifer (Myers) VandenBerg. Jake was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Jake was a member of the Martin Methodist Church. He worked for more than 20 years at Lockshore Dairy, and then spent about 20 years as a truck driver for the Perrigo Company. Along with his other jobs, Jake has been a farmer most of his life in the Martin area.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; five children: Robert and Andrea VandenBerg, Ken and Jodi VandenBerg, John and Korene VandenBerg, Scott Page and Kelly Page; nine grandchildren: Chase, Lindsey, Chet, Casey, Carly, Canton, Max, Phillip and Dara; two great-grandchildren: Taylor and Mack; a brother, Ken and Sharon VandenBerg; one sister, Eleanor VandenBerg; and one sister-in-law, Joyce McAllister; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Herm.
Friends may meet with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14 at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the Martin Methodist Church (969 E. Allegan, Street, Martin), Pastor Sean Kidd officiating.
Memorials may be made to the William Crispe House, 203 W. Bridge Street, Plainwell, MI 49080. Private interment will take place at the Fennville City Cemetery.
