Longtime Wayland VFW member Del Warner dies at 95

Adelbert “Del” H. Warner, aged 95 of Grand Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 13.

Del served in the US Navy during World War II and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #7581 in Wayland.

Surviving are his children, Adele Hirkaway, Harold (Kathy) Warner, Dennis (Loretta) Warner, Jennie (Harold) Sandoval, Jackie Bailey; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Ethel Brown, Agnes Chelbana, Robert (JoAnn) Warner, Donald (Nancy) Warner, Shirley (Lee) Reed, Shirley Warner; and many nieces and nephews.

His wife of 70 years, Doris; granddaughter, Kyle McGregor; brother, Kenneth, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Stroo Funeral Home, 1995 68th St., with Rev. Calvin VanderMeyden officiating. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery.

The family will greet visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Stroo Funeral Home

Contributions in memory of Del may be made to Heartland Hospice.

    WW II Vets are passing at a rapid rate, they were “The Greatest Generation” of Americans ever. Del Warner’s family’s loss is our nations loss.
