The Yankee Springs Township Fire Department is asking motorists to avoid M-179 near the Curly Cone restaurant.
A Consumers Power utility pole came down Sunday just west of the Cone and officials say it will take a few more hours to remove so as to not route customers through a residential neighborhood.
Curly Cone then decided to shut down at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Consumers Energy officials said the road may have to be shut down until Monday by Michigan Department of Transportation workers.
A spokesman for the fire department said, “Please seek an alternative route! Please stop trying to drive through our scene. It is shut down… for your safety and our safety.”
