Marie Kathryn (Steffes) Beck, age 92, Chapel Hill NC, formerly of Dorr, died Monday, July 23.
Marie was devoted to her family and her Catholic faith. She was a long-time member of the St. Stanislaus Altar Rosary Society. She loved to sew and to read and she was one of the Detroit Tigers’ biggest fans. Marie shared her daily life and a home with Rick, Nita, Seth and Collin for the last 20 years, later expanding that to include Kathy Wilson and Onie Kimble.
Her love of baseball was evident in her presence at the hundreds of games she traveled to throughout the south, watching Seth and Collin play little league, high school and then college ball.
Marie is survived by children and grandchildren Joyce and Gary Carey (Gary & Cori, George & Jennifer), Leona and Gene Kimble (David), Claire and Rich Kipen (Greg, Dan & Sandra), Ethel Whetzel (Bill Byron), Phyllis and Gianni Marchesotti (Jaime & Eric Manne, Kathy Wilson & Alec Cassels, Joe Marchesotti and Marina Marchesotti) and Anita & Rick Andres (Seth and Collin), as well as 9 great grandchildren – including Jimmy, Mikah and Gavin Manne who bridged the miles and generations to Facetime their “Gramma E” frequently. Marie also leaves behind siblings Leola Peters, Delbert Steffes, Arline DeLange, Clifford (Barbara) Steffes, Linda Belknap, Michelle VanKampen and sisters-in-law Nancy Glasslee and Linda Steffes.
Preceding her in death were her husband of almost 44 years, Bill and son Jim, along with her parents Stella (Schumacher) & Joseph Steffes, stepmother Vivian Steffes and siblings, Angela Young, Donald Steffes, Joseph Steffes Jr, Margie Bouwman, and Kay Bright.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services – Dorr Chapel, 4330 18th St.,with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1871 136th Ave., Dorr, at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27. Internment at Salem Township Cemetery, Burnips. Due to construction, guests are asked to please approach the funeral home going North-bound on 18th Avenue.
In memory of Marie and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Stanislaus Catholic School, or UNC Chapel Hill North Carolina Hospice.
