When the Martin High School football team takes the field in the state finals in Marquette’s Superior Dome Saturday, the cheerleaders will be there to cheer the team on after all.

Varsity cheerleading coach Kerri Totten tells TownBroadcast that the cheer parents have provided transportation to all the games this season, and the trip to Marquette would be no different.

“We already had plans in the back of our mind that we may need to travel ourselves, as it is never a guarantee that we would be able to travel with the band or football team.” Totten said.

The cheer team was not able to travel with the football team and band this year because, as a club sports team, they were not eligible for coverage under the district’s liability insurance policy. Instead, the cheerleaders will travel with their families to the state championship game.

A separate donation was collected at the spaghetti dinner fund-raiser Tuesday night for the cheerleaders. The community’s generosity resulted in helping the cheer team with lodging expenses, and a team dinner and breakfast in Marquette.

Totten went on to say, “These girls are very excited to cheer these boys on to their next championship and were very grateful to have this Clipper community who is so supportive of it all.”
