Martin finishes grid season unbeaten, wins state title

Martin football coach Brad Blauvelt hoists the championship trophy for the third time in the last four years.

Martin claimed its third state championship in four years Saturday in eight-man football with a convincing 52-8 victory over Blanchard Montabella at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

Martin built a 38-8 advantage in the first half and then coasted the rest of the way, holding the Mustangs scoreless during the entire second half.

The Clippers, who a little more than a decade ago were suffering from a 55-game losing streak, switched to eight-man football and have made the post-season playoffs every year since.

The Superior Dome has been good to coach Brad Blauvelt and Martin with three successful title bids. Martin defeated Merrill in 2022 and Indian River Inland Lakes in 2023. The Clippers stumbled in the regional finals to eventual champion Mendon last year.

It was the first undefeated season in program history with a perfect 13-0 record. The Clippers won every contest with a double digit cushion. They amassed 657 points in their 13 games and yielded a total of only 99.
