Martin girls tie for 3rd in latest SAC cross meet

Martin and Gobles tied for third place Thursday night in the Southwest Athletic Conference cross-country meet at the Gilmore Car Museum near Hickory Corners.

Both teams scored 94 points, finishing behind Saugatuck with 57 and Kalamazoo Hackett with 65. Thirteen teams competed in the girls’ race.

Martin junior Veyda Conley also finished third among the girls’ in that competition, once again crossing the finish line in less than 20 minutes, at 19:44.63. Gobles ace Libby Smith defeated all comers with a blistering time of 18:26.52.

Sophomore Allison Rodgers again backed up Conley with a 15-place finish in 21:40.94. She was followed by Sara Schipper in 20th, DuRae Sage in 26th and Riley Bender 31st.

The Martin boys took 10th place among 14 teams in their race. Jadon Dettmann led the Clippers by taking 30th place in 18:49.56, followed by Jeremiah VanHouten in 43rd, Gari Salvador-Garcia 44th, Hunter Hayes in 50th and Xander Ruiter 90th.
