Martin hires Hillsdale ISD supervisor as new superintendent

Brooke Ballee-Stone

The Martin Board of Education has chosen Brooke Ballee-Stone, a career-technical principal/supervisor for the Hillsdale County Intermediate School District, to succeed Dr. David Harnish as part-time superintendent beginning July 1.

Ballee-Stone has held her current position at Hillsdale for almost two years. The school’s goals are to make students career-ready when leaving high school, are ready for the workforce and/or receive articulated college credits for furthering education.

She also was superintendent for one year at Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools during the 2016-17 academic year and was director of curriculum and instructional technology at Eaton Rapids Public Schools from 2011 to 2016. She was an elementary principal for two years at Van Buren Public Schools after serving that district as secondary curriculum and district technology supervisor.

Dr. David Harnish

A graduate of Michigan State University, she has a master’s degree from Grand Valley State University and is working on her doctorate in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University.

Dr. Harnish earlier this year announced his retirement after serving the Martin district for five years and guiding the schools through the process of being one of the first in Michigan to use solar power.
