Martin hires new girls’ varsity hoops coach

Eric Zudweg has been hired to be the next varsity girls’ varsity basketball coach at Martin.

“I am absolutely ecstatic for this opportunity and can’t wait to get to work and get to know more of the community,” Ludwig said.

He succeeds Ben Schipper, who decided to step aside earlier this summer after coaching the Lady Clippers for six years. Perhaps the Clippers’ best season under Schipper’s guidance came in 2020, when his team’s campaign was suddenly canceled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Martin was preparing to meet another one-beaten foe in the Division 4 regional finals.

Zudweg has been married to his wife, Alex, for nine years, they have three dogs (Kinsler, Everest and Ember) and three cats (Roo, Tig and Winnie) that keep them busy at home. They live in Martin on Pratt Lake and are excited to get even more involved in the community.

“We enjoy playing slow pitch softball, golfing, camping, kayaking, traveling and spending time with our friends and family,” Zedweg said. “My full time job is as a Realtor with Icon Realty Group and Alex is a regenerative agriculture specialist with Pheasants Forever.

“I have been coaching for over 12 years and have also spent time coaching golf and baseball, along with basketball,” Zedweg said. “I have coached at all levels from preschool all the way up through college.  I was an assistant coach on last year’s girls’ basketball team at Martin and am excited to keep coaching these girls! “I hope to help the ladies in the program to become better basketball players, to compete every year for championships, to have fun, to work hard, and to keep growing as better people on and off the court. The work starts now!”
