MartiRaymond Brennern junior varsity boys’ basketball coach Raymond Brenner was arrested Monday and faces felony charges of accosting a minor for immoral purposes and use of a computer to commit a crime.

Authorities said a deputy with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to investigate an allegation that Brenner, 24, was using social media for an inappropriate and criminal purpose. The deputy was dispatched to a residence in Martin Township at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31.

The sherriff’s office said in a statement, “The coach involved was alleged to be sending photos and making statements to a player on his team that were extremely inappropriate.”

The investigation was turned over to  a sheriff’s detective, who was called out to the scene. The suspect coach was contacted and interviewed about the allegations. Brenner subsequently was arrested by the detective and a charging request was sent to the Allegan County Prosecutor’s Office for review and the issuance of formal charges.

The suspect, who remains in the Allegan County Corrections Center, was arraigned Monday in Allegan County District Court.

Officials with Martin Public Schools have been notified of the allegations and the arrest.
