Haylen Buell of Martin has been named the Eight-Man Football Player of the Year by the Associated Press.
The Clipper senior stepped in to the quarterback’s position after the graduation of Gavin Myers. Though he had never played the position before, he led Martin to its first-ever undefeated season, concluded by the state championship victory at the Superior Dome in Marquette last month. Buell also is a defending state champion in wrestling in his weight division. The news of his award comes on the heels of his coach, Brad Blauvelt being selected as coach of the year. His father and his uncle both played football and baseball for Wayland High School.
