Members of the Martin eight-man football team are dead serious about capturing their third state championship in the last four years.
The Clippers met their second post-season test Friday night on their home field, turning back a Climax-Scotts opponent 36-20. It will be the last time Martin will play on the home field this season.
Martin, which claimed the district title with the win, shot out to a 22-8 advantage at the half and extended its lead to 30-14 afterward.
The Panthers fared much better offensively and defensively than most of Martin’s opponents this fall. The Clippers have piled up 575 points in 11 contests this season while holding opponents to 83, average of just over one score per game.
The Clippers now must turn their attention to their third round opponent, Kingston (10-1) a 32-8 winner over Capac Friday evening, but their ultimate goal is another appearance later this month in the Superior Dome in Marquette, where they captured state crowns in 2022 and 2023. Kingston, like Martin, is accustomed to to being a high octane offensive power.
