The web design business, which did the township’s web site, indicated that the federal government will penalize those who provide a web site that is not compliant with Americans with Disabilities (ADA) regulations.
Pixelvine said it could make the township compliant for a fee of $1500 a year.
Township Clerk Jennifer Wharton said it’s her understanding that neighboring Barry Township has refused to sign up for the compliance service, instead opting for taking its chances that no feral agency will notice.
The Martin Board took no action, but will take up the issue at a later meeting.
In other business Wednesday night, the Township Board:
- Reviewed and discussed estimates for residential cleanup at 443 118th Ave. Supervisor Glenn Leep said, “He (the homeowner) is making progress, so we must make sure that progress continues.”
- Noted the Planning Commission will take up the issue of crafting a local noise ordinance and then make a recommendation to the Township Board.
- Awarded B & F Excavating the contract for snowplowing at a cost of $6,090 for the entire winter season.
- Reviewed and discussed a request from Surf AirWireless to install Internet services within the township. The firm does a lot of business in the Gun Lake area and it submitted the $500 fee to Martin Township.
- Approved a budget amendment to add $18,836.28 to the Fire Vehicle and Maintenance fund.
- Agreed to pay the Allegan County Road Commission $125,041 for asphalt paving on 120th Avenue.
Federal, not feral, FYI.
Also, maybe I’ll go looking for ways to report non-compliant websites to authorities who will care. Force Barry County to spend some money on something good instead of that racist sheriff asshole.
