Martin Township Treasurer Sue Tiemeyer turned in her resignation to the Township Board Wednesday night.
Tiemeyer, who has served in her elected post for 20 years as of next month, said her last day will be March 31.
“My doctor says I have to step back,” she explained to her board colleagues.
She said she’s been showing signs since last fall of less than desirable blood pressure readings.
Tiemeyer said, however that plans to continue to be involved in the township’s efforts to build a park just to the south of Clippers Cafe on Division Avenue. The board agreed earlier in the meetings to spend $7,500 on a planner-architect doing drawings for a park geared to 2- to. 5-year-olds and to 5- to 12-year-old. Also included in the plans is a splash pad very similar to the one enjoyed in the Wayland City Park.
She and local citizens serving on the parks board submitted an application for a Department of Natural Resources grant to help pay for the project, but they were not chosen. Undaunted, they will submit another application by April 1 and they plan to solicit local citizens and businesses for financial help.
In other business at Wednesday night’s meeting, the board:
- Was told that Dillon Thomas has been elevated to assistant fire chief to help Chief Kurt Knight. Two new firefighters, 20-year veteran Kyle Baker and newcomer Tyler Sims were approved for joining Martin Fire & Rescue.
- Agreed to final payment to the Allegan County Road Commission for last year’s paving of 120th Avenue from 10th to Eighth streets. Martin Township this year will see the paving of Eighth Street two miles from 120th to 116th Avenue at an estimated cost of $412,500.
- Noted that township officials’ visit to 443 118th Avenue revealed progress is being made on a cleanup. Supervisor Glenn Leep said, “We saw progress and we will encourage them (the owners) to continue.”
- Noted that Brian DeMann has been chosen as Martin Township’s new representative on the Wayland Area Emergency Services Ambulance Board. He succeeds Sarah Lynema, who has stepped down.
