The Martin Township Board Wednesday evening approved the purchase and installation of a new furnace at Township Hall at a cost of $4,335.90.
The old unit, which had served the township since 1995, had heat exchange issues and broke down last week.
Supervisor Glenn Leep said he was pleased that the device had provided quality service for 28 years.
In other business at Wednesday night’s meeting, the Township Board:
- Learned from Wheeler Library Board member Alice Kelsey that this year’s holiday Festival of the Trees may have been the most successful fund-raiser ever.
- Was told by Clerk Jennifer Wharton that Brad Branch has been sworn as a new member of the Planning Commission.
- Agreed to ask the Allegan County Road Commission for an estimate of the cost of finishing paving on 122nd Avenue.
- Learned that Township Assessor Josh Simmons was congratulated by the Michigan State Tax Commission for achieving a perfect score in its audit review.
- Learned from Dillon Thomas of Martin Fire & Rescue that the department soon will have 24 volunteer members after two complete fire academy.
- Was told that the cost of graveling roads in the township this coming year will be between $20,000 and $22,000.
- Heard from Wharton that Republic has changed recycling dates in the township from first Monday to fourth Thursday of each month.
- Went over results of the Jonker Land Survey of markers and agreed to pay through funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
- Was told by County Commissioner Gale Dugan that costs of remodeling and addition to the county courthouse to accommodate the new circuit court should be about $10 million.
