Martin Twp. receives anonymous gift to buy ORV

Martin Township Fire & Rescue has received an anonymous gift of up to $22,500.

The donor has asked in writing that the money be used for the purchase of an off-road vehicle (ORV) that can help rescue people and animals stranded in areas where emergency vehicles cannot go.

The Martin Township Board accepted the gift with thanks at its regular meeting Wednesday evening.

In other business Wednesday, the Township Board:

  • Approved participation in the Allegan County Imagery Partnership agreement in which it will pay $7,524 over six years for the making project.
  • Was told by retiring Treasurer Sue Tiemeyer that she continues work on the capital improvement plan for Martin’s application to the Michigan DNR for a recreation grant. The grant would fund a park on vacant land just south of of Wheeler Library on 10th Street in the village.
  • Tabled until March bids on this year’s dust control program.
  • Adopted codes of conduct and principles of governance as provided in writing by the Michigan Townships Association.
  • Was solicited for use of the township hall for a special winter solstice celebration in December 2026. Board members took no action.
  • Agreed to pay $177,547 as a progress payment for its newest fire truck being assembled by Spencer Manufacturing.
