Martin is having a record-setting year on the gridiron this fall, only few years after suffering through 55 consecutive defeats.
The Clippers annhilated Eu Claire 62-0 Friday night on the road and now they have outscored their five opponents this season by an eye-popping 273-48. That’s a per-game average of 54-10.
Martin has developed one of the beat programs in the state in eight-man football, bring home two state championship trophies and just missing the glory a couple more times. The Gobles outfit they beat 52-6 was previously unbeaten and Eau Claire entered the latest contest with just one loss.
It was the same old story last Friday and the Clippers rolled to a 40-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Martin will be gunning for its sixth victory without a loss this season next Friday in a matchup on the road against Muskegon Heights.
Wayland 28 Hamilton 12
The Wayland varsity football team Friday evening captured its first O-K White Conference victory this season by taking down Hamilton 28-12.
The victory was a nice touch added to a festive homecoming celebration.
The win lifted the Wildcats’ league record to 1-2 and 2-3 overall. Hamilton is 0-2 in league play and 1-4 overall.
Kelloggsville 30 Hopkins 22
It was the second straight loss against an O-K Silver Conference opponent that in days gone by was regarded as a breather on the schedule.
The Vikings were stunned a week earlier by a solid passing attack from Wyoming Godwin Heights in a 26-16 defeat. This one Friday evening was close, but the Rockets pulled it out.
Hopkins started the season with two consecutive non-league trumphs, but since then has lost 8-7 to Belding and then to Godwin and Kelloggsville.
The Vikings will try to right the ship next Friday with a home game against Comstock Park.
