Louis “Snuffy” Schmidt, age 92 of Dorr, died Monday, May 6.

Snuffy served in the U. S. Navy in World War II.  He retired from Reynolds Metals after many years. He was on the Dorr Fire Department for 55 years and taught fire safety to the students.  He was traffic control officer in Dorr and other areas for many years. Snuffy was a beloved uncle who has a soft heart and loved to help everyone.

He is survived his sister, Patricia Dean, and brother-in-law, Leroy Doxey many nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Aloyis and Anna Schmidt; step-dad John Schmidt and his siblings Ed, Allie, Stan, John, Leona, Adeline, Sylvia, Louise, Mary, and infant brother Ron.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 am Friday, May 10, at St. Mary’s Visitation Catholic Church, 2459 146th Ave. SW, Byron Center. Fr. Christopher Derda will be presiding. Interment will be at Dorr Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home 4330 18th Street, Dorr. Rosary service will be held at 4 pm Thursday.

In honor of Snuffy, contributions may be made to Catholic Schools care of St. Stanislaus, St. Mary’s or St. Therese School.
