Leone Marie Smith, age 90, of Wayland, died Thursday, Oct. 20.
Leone was born April 8, 1926, in Chicago. She retired from General Motors after 30 years. She volunteered countless hours to the Wayland VFW Post 7581, the elderly in Allegan County, and to St. Stanislaus. Leone was an amazing cook and her family looked forward to her traditional Polish meals
Leone is survived by her children: Lee (Kathi) Smith, Larry (Tracy) Smith, Jackie (Mike) Perez, Kate (Ray Schmidt) Smith; her nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack L. Smith, her brother Don and her sister Jeanie, her parents Leon J. and Helen L. Niedzwiecki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Parish with Father Stephen Rodrigo presiding. Interment following at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Leone may be made to the VFW Wayland Post 7581 and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Michigan.
