Roger Dale Simmons, age 85, of Wyoming, died Friday, July 12.

Roger was born in Hopkins and raised in Diamond Springs. He was a devoted employee of Country Fresh Dairy for 39 years where he held many positions. He was blessed with 23 years of retirement.

He was an avid bike rider, peddling the roads and trails of West Michigan, often collecting cans and bottles along the way. At one point, he had collected enough cans and bottles to fund a trip to Hawaii! He and his wife traveled to Hawaii three times and enjoyed trips throughout the Midwest. They attended countless country and polka band concerts while traveling.

Roger worked for many years on the grounds at his condominium, helping friends and neighbors. He also had a unique collection of raccoon knickknacks and pictures.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Arlene (Weidenfeller) Simmons, and his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Renee (VanNorman) Simmons; his sisters Mildred and Gale Loew; and Jolene and Lynn VanOrder; and nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gertrude Simmons.

The family will greet visitors from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4101 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Vallier officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Van Andel Institute for Parkinson’s Research, 333 Bostwick Ave. NE, Grand Rapids.
