The Dorr Township Planning Commission Tuesday evening was given an update on the proposed new master plan by consultant Nathan Mehmed of Williams & Works.
Mehmed went over most of the new and old provisions of the plan, which had not been updated since 2007.
Perhaps the most important outcome was that an open house and public meeting on the master plan will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, which is the customary date and time for monthly Planning Commission meetings anyway.
There was considerable discussion Tuesday night about combining the rural agricultural and rural estates zoning designations. The latter designation provides more flexibility and provides landowners more options while rural agricultural limits use of the land to agricultural only.
Mehmed went over concepts such as prime farm land, groundwater sensitivity, parks and recreation sites, roads and transportation, school buildings, sanitary sewers, demographics and existing land use analysis.
In other matters, the commission:
- Unanimously approved a special use permit request from Project Hope to install an electric sign at its site on 43rd Avenue. Commissioners insist the electronic signal be downgraded between midnight at 5 p.m. each day, so as not to disturb neighbors.
- Agreed to continue to meet at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month throughout the year 2022.
