Kay Ann Genther, age 85 of Caledonia (formerly of Wayland), died Monday, Oct. 14.

Kay received her master’s degree in teaching from Western Michigan University. She was strong in her Catholic faith and also was a teacher at St. Therese Catholic School in Wayland for many years. She later went on to work in financial planning and insurance.

Kay loved her close circle of friends (The Big 10+) and spent time doing many shenanigans with them. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and roots. She loved to travel, tend to her flower garden, and spend time with her family. Kay cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at her residence on Duncan Lake.

Kay is survived by her sons David (Chris) Genther, Robert (Marge) Genther, Ken (Melissa) Genther; grandchildren Katie (Rick) Szymanski, Thomas (Emily) Genther, Amanda (Ron) Hoeksma, Ashley (Luke) Wolters, Phil (Sarah) Rasnake, Mike Rasnake, Lindsay (Alec) Dickerson, Megan (Matt) Belka, Isaac Genther; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Doris (Chuck) Mehlberg, Janice (John) Inghram; sisters-in-law Gerri Hyde and Bonnie (Jerry) Wise; brothers-in-law Will Hooker and Bill (Carol) Genther; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Genther; parents Keith and Irene Hyde; siblings Marlene Hooker, Bruce (Mary) Hyde, and Robert Hyde.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services (Wayland Chapel), 312 N. Main St., with prayers of the Rosary beginning at 4:30 p.m. A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 128 Cedar St., with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the mass. Kay will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery next to Leroy.

In memory of Kay and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Hospice – Trillium Woods or Pine Rest Christian Health Services.
