
John Joseph Ong, age 68, died Sunday, March 9, at his home in Dorr.
He enjoyed playing games on his tablet, reading, making models, woodworking, and yard work, when he was in better health. John loved watching NASCAR, football and baseball. He cherished his family and time spent with them, especially watching Cocomelon with his grandson, Aiden.
By trade, he was a journeyman tool maker. He served his country in the United States Navy.
John is survived by his wife of 46.5 years, Christine Ong; children Linda (Denise) Ong, Melissa (Brandon) Graff, Dan (Amanda) Smith; grandchildren Aiden, Madison, MaKenna, Joey, Ava, and Emma; mother-in-law, Carla Miller; sisters Leslie Domby, Natasha (Thomas) Richmond; brothers Greg Ong, Stephan Ong, Eric Ong, Robert (Holly) Austin, Phillip (Ruth) Thommen; aunts Linda McCrory, Margie Tillotson; sisters-in-law Rose Bussis and Deb Stacy; brothers-in-law Randy (Belinda) Miller, Mike (Ellen) Miller, Troy (Shelley) Miller, Todd (Sue) Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rachel Thorn; father, Harry Ong; son, John Ong; sister, Carol Latham; brothers Harry Ong and James; and numerous aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Moline Christian Reformed Church, 4341 Chappel St., with visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Luncheon will follow at Moline CRC.
