Wayland High School graduate Arthur M. (Art) Kidney 79, died at Bronson Hospital, Nov. 22, of complications from a fall.

Art was born in Plainwell, son of Albert R. and Vivian L. (Doxey) of Wayland. On November 5, 1994 he was united in marriage to Andrea Jean DeHoff Sherfield, who survives.

Art retired from PNC Bank after 37 years in bank security and property management. He then worked for Hospice of SW Michigan part time for five years. Art served on various board,s including Sterling Oaks Condominium Association and various church boards. He volunteered at Lending Hands of Michigan, was involved in the start up of Twelve Baskets Food Pantry and recently a driver for Meals on Wheels.

He was a starting center on the Wayland High School basketball squad in the early 1960s.

Art was an avid golfer for many years and league members used to say “chip like Art” as he had a knack for a beautiful chip shot.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, a son, Steven, in July, 2005, a step-son Brian Sherfield in 2002 and a brother-in-law, Steven DeHoff in 2018.

He lis survived by his wife, Andrea, daughter Laura (Jeff) Burns, brother Ronald (Miriam), sister Alice, daughter-in-law Lyn (Bill) Benn, step-son Eric Sherfield, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, a niece, nephew, many extended family members and friends.

Cremation has been completed. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Connections Community Church, 11500 US 131 and U Ave., Schoolcraft, with a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave Sanders officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Connections Community Church designated for Legacy Fund.
