Jack VanderBaan, 92, of Wayland, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Metro Health Hospital.

Born May 26, 1927, in Workum, Netherlands, he was the son of the late Gerlof and Janke (Emgersma) VanderBaan and the husband of Vivienne (Henkel Spray) VanderBaan and the late Lina VanderBaan. Mr. VanderBaan served in the United States Army as a military policeman while in Germany. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW.

Mr. VanderBaan had been a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Dorr for more than 25 years. He retired from General Motors after 31 years of employment.

Besides his wife, Vivienne, Mr. VanderBaan is survived by his stepchildren, Jane Gollan, Randy (Anna) Spray, Jim (Mary) Spray and David (Kathy) Spray; his siblings, Sidney (Delores) VanderBaan and Helen VanderBaan; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Along with his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Barbara Edwards.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 4219 Park Lane, Dorr. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made in Jack’s name to Epiphany Lutheran Church.
