Sarah Alice Hazen, 80, of Hopkins, died Monday, Feb. 18, at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan.

Born July 19, 1938 in Miami, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Cecil Greene McCullough and Josephine Alice (Gray) Ashley and was the wife of the late Jerry Halden Hazen. Mrs. Hazen had been the librarian in Hopkins for many years prior to retiring.

She loved to travel with her family, especially to visit the ocean in Florida. Above anything else, though, Mrs. Hazen most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hazen is survived by her daughter, Debbie Ruthruff; sister, Betty Jo Johnson and husband William; brother-in-law, Jack Hazen and wife Elaine; grandchildren, Matt and Jessica Hazen, Paul and Marsha Hazen, Amanda and Cory Perrin, Sara VanSingel, Jeremy Harrington, and Luke and Vicky Harrington; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Hazen; brothers, Hunter, Bobby and Russell McCullough; and her grandson-in-law, Brian VanSingel.

The family will receive friends at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at which time a memorial service will begin. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
