Memorial service June 7 for Aaron Kerley, 42

Aaron Kerley, 42, formerly of Wayland, died Wednesday, May 14.

He was born on Dec.31, 1982, in Grand Rapids, to David and Robin (Curtis) Kerley. He attended Wayland Union Schools and most recently lived in Grand Rapids, where he worked as a house painter.

Aaron had great passion for his music, art, and LARP (live action role play) which all served as outlets for his creativity. He enjoyed sharing his love for music with his former band members (Goattillar), friends, and his brother Dan. He enjoyed a diverse group of friends within the LARP community and often incorporated his artwork into customs and LARP weaponry.

He showed a strong commitment to his family and was a magnet for all his nieces and nephews. His calm, compassionate nature and his broad smile made all strangers feel like friends.

Aaron is survived by his father David and stepmother Kathy; two siblings, Dan and Naikia (Derrek) McKay, and five half siblings, Ian (Keely), Gabriel (Alexis), Ashlynn, Josh (Stephanie) Abts, and Nichele Abts.

He was preceded in death by his mother Robin (Curtis) Kerley, his grandmother Betty Kerley-Holzgen (and Verle), his grandfather, Bobby Kerley, and his cousin, Johnny Kerley.

There will be a memorial gathering for Aaron’s friends and family from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the United Church of Wayland 411 E Superior St. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in Aaron’s and his late mother Robin’s name.
