
Ronald Lee Commans, age 80, of Lakeview, formerly of Hilliards, died Friday, Feb. 20, at Corewell Butterworth Hospita in Grand Rapidsl.
Ronald was born on Oct. 25, 1945, in Allegan, to Howard and Dorothy Commans. He grew up in Hilliards and graduated from Hopkins High School in 1963, later continuing his education at Grand Rapids Community College, graduating in 1965. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a test pilot for the F-111.
Ronald was a dedicated truck driver in the petroleum industry for many years. Alongside his wife, Kathleen, whom he married on June 7, 1968, they operated a day care out of their home for 35 years. Many of the day care children became extended family, loving them like their own.
Ronald was an avid outdoorsman-an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman-and a joyful jokester. Above all, he cherished time with his children and grandchildren.
Ronald was former president and inducted life time member of the South Kent Sportsmen’s Club.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Ron (Lori) Commans II, Tina Commans, Kim (Mike) Richardson, Katrina (Corey) Tillage, and Hilary (Hubert) Commans; grandchildren, Derik, Tracey, Tiffany, Karli, Ryan, Paige, Capri, Aubrey, Tyler, Justin, Paige, Braeden, McKinley, Rielynn, and Brynlee; sister, Shirley (Lou) Feliconi; brother, Robert Commans; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Brianna.
A memorial servicer will take place Sunday, March 15, at New Life United Methodist Church in Six Lakes, with Pastor Mark Mitchell officiating. Ron’s family will greet friends and family from 1 p,m. until the service begins at 2 p.m.
