Hopkins native Ted McLaughlin died Saturday, April 19. He was 90 years aold.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1934, to Lloyd and Nina (Miner) McLaughlin of Hopkins. He lived a life full of hard work from a young age. He was able to enjoy many years of traveling with his wife, Sally A. McLaughlin, whom he wed on Sept. 28, 1957. She preceded him in death five years ago, after 62 years of marriage.

They enjoyed a life full of camping while raising their two children, Rosemary (Troy) McKenney of Allegan, and Brian (Nikki) McLaughlin of Hopkins.

Of the many gifts he had given to his children, he gifted his daughter Rosemary his love and talent for basketball, and admiration for football. Brian was gifted with his enthusiasm and passion for hunting, fishing and gardening. Among many things, Ted was one of the good ol’ boys, who filled your days with stories, laughter, and jokes. He always provided words of wisdom, encouragement, and support to any of his loved one’s endeavors, excited to see what their futures held.

Surviving are his grandchildren; Brandon McKenney (Stacey Smith), Brittney (Travis) Bambacht, Brianna (Steven) Johnson, Alyssa McLaughlin, and Lindsey McLaughlin (Travis Straughn); great grandchildren Ryver, Jordyn, Kohen, Jovie, Eastyn and Brynn. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Sandy Farrer, brother and sister in law, Dan (Mary Jo) Heckman, as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends. His kin will continue celebrating his life, and always be ready for Saint Patrick’s Day, morel mushroom hunting, camping, fishing, deer hunting and gardening.

In honor of Ted and Sally’s lives, there will be a memorial celebration Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2036 20th St., Allegan, welcoming all family and friends. Their family will lay them to rest with a private burial.
