Sandra Lee Ashley, 54, of Wayland, died Wednesday June 3, unexpectedly at home.

Sandra was born Feb. 4, 1961, in Allegan, the daughter of William E. and the late Sally (Wesseling) Ashley. She graduated from Hopkins High School, class of 1979.

Sandra most loved cooking, children and dogs. She had done a lot of cooking for family and friends over the years. She provided housekeeping for her father after her mother passed away and often cared for her nieces and nephews, as they were growing up.

Her next job was in Grand Rapids, working for an industrial cleaning service for several years. From there she moved on to the job she loved most, working with dogs at a private kennel in Wayland.

Surviving are her father: William and step-mother Susan of Allegan/Texas; her brother Michael Ashley of Hopkins; her sister Jackie Ashley and husband, Scott Gibson, of Kentwood; niece Amy Ryan/Ben Klaassen of Hudsonville; niece Holly Ryan/Brent Bierman of Holton, niece Stephanie Ryan of Kentwood, nephew Michael Ryan of Livonia; eight great nieces/nephews; and aunts, uncles, cousins longtime companion, Memsey White, and by friends: Tammy Tullar, Kimberly Gibson, and many at Westbury Apartments.

There will be a memorial gathering of immediate family and close friends at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 18, to inter her beside her mother, Sally, at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Township. Memorials may be made to the Holland Rescue Mission, 356 Fairbanks Ave, Holland, MI 49423, or the Allegan County Animal Shelter, 2283 33rd St, Allegan, MI 49010.
