Barbara A. Tichvon, 89, of Wayland, died Sunday, March 18.
Barb was born in Alaska, Mich., to Esther and Earl Douglass. She was married to the late Charles E. Tichvon of Middleville for 40 years and resided in both Lansing and Wayland.
Barb attended the Blodgett Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, graduating as a registered nurse. She worked at both St. Lawrence Hospital and Lansing General Hospital as both a clinical nurse and nurse administrator. She then moved to the Yankee Springs area, where she was a charge nurse at Pennock Hospital in Hastings, retiring in 1990. After retirement she donated time at community blood draw events and local food banks.
Barb was an avid sports lover and played golf on a women’s league at Yankee Springs Golf Course. She loved to play cards with friends and family, had a contagious laugh and great sense of humor. She will be remembered most for her calm and loving demeanor in her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her son Michael Timothy and his wife Elizabeth of Stuart, Fla., her daughter Amy Tichvon Rosenberg and husband Jim of Framingham, MA, her grandson Sam Rosenberg of White Plains, NY and her granddaughter Jillian Rosenberg of Chicago; her sister Lona Hineline of Middleville and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Arden Douglass formerly of Fort Meade, FL and her sister Marguerite Homrich of Caledonia.
Time and place of celebration of Barb’s life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Barry County Commission on Aging, Adult Day Care Program, 320 West Woodlawn Ave., Hastings, MI 49058.
