John Van Dyk (Big John), age 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 14.

“Big” John enjoyed several activities such as cards, hunting, fishing, golfing, and going to the Moose Lodge in Dorr. To him, what made those activities the most enjoyable were the people he spent that time with.

He is survived by his children, Harry (Diane) Van Dyk, Bill (Cally) Van Dyk, John (Julie) Van Dyk; grandchildren, Grace Thumser, Kristen Van Dyk, Heather Van Dyk, Stefany Van Dyk, Jonny Van Dyk, Amber (Lee Thompson) Van Dyk, Katie Van Dyk, Stacey Van Dyk; great-grandchildren, Gabby Van Dyk, Riley Thumser, Adelyn Van Dyk, Eli Doyle and many nephews, “adopted” sons 4 & 5, T. & Mon and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey (Grasmeyer) Van Dyk; parents, Harm and Alice Van Dyk and sister, Grace Warsen.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug, 15, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, Dorr Chapel, 4330 18th St. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Kubiak-Cook, Dorr Chapel, with visitation starting at 2:30.

In honor of “Big” John and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Hospice.
