William “Bill” Rantz, age 72 of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, July 11.

Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy. He loved to fish, play cards and lived for his grandchildren. He was a 1964 graduate of Wayland High School.

Bill was born on Dec. 25, 1945, to Donald and Lavern (Allen) Rantz.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail; his daughter Kim (Joe) Chamberlin; his brother Harold (Janet) Rantz; five grandchildren: Matthew Rantz, Lindsey Rantz, Zach Chamberlin, Haylie Chamberlin and Dominic (Ashley) Bushouse as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his son Mark; four siblings: Evelyn Bowman, Janet Aernie, Donna Rantz and Dave Rantz.

Following family wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 16, at the Marshall & Gren Chapel of the McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, 120 S. Woodhams St. in Plainwell.
