Martin High School senior Mahrijana “Mahri” Maya died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 13, at her home in Martin.

She was born in Kalamazoo on Aug. 13, 2000, the daughter of Efrain “Bobby” Maya and Nicole Bower. Mahrijana was a boisterous senior at Martin High School with a larger than life personality and an amazing sense of humor. She loved taking photos, especially selfies, and doing make-up and hair for herself and her friends. Mahrijana enjoyed choir and listening to country music. She was very close to her cousins and was loved very much by her family.

Surviving are her parents, Nicky Bower of Martin and Bobby (Brieanne) Maya of TN; grandparents, Charles and Geneva Bower; uncles, Jamie (Melissa) Maya, Jesse (Stephanie) Maya, Charlie (Christina) Bower; aunt, Brandy (Kevin) Jackson; her dog that she loved so much, Tucker; many cousins along with several extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Efrain and Kathy Maya.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.

Private family burial of ashes will be held at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego at a later time.

Contributions in memory of Mahrijana may be made to the Allegan County Animal Shelter.
